Sally Wong-Avery was the first female elected President of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, San Diego’s oldest Chinese community organization dedicated to preserving Chinese history and culture.  She also co-founded the Chinese Historical Society.

Sally also became the Principal of the oldest Chinese School in San Diego.  She founded Chinese Professional Services, in which she provided critically needed services-translation, interpretation, job referrals, food handling classes, business consultation services, and more.

Over the years, Sally assisted thousand in the San Diego community both professionally and personally. She then opened the Chinese Service Center of San Diego, which provides many services such as translation/interpretation and also coordinates many of the premier Chinese community events in San Diego. In 2011, Sally and her late husband, philanthropist Dennis Avery, used their own funds to build the Chinese Bilingual Preschool.
