Tom Hom is a visionary who has never feared facing life’s obstacles. He has always worked toward creating a better future for himself, his family and his community. In 1963 this Chinese-American made San Diego history by becoming the first minority ever elected to the San Diego City Council. Later, he won a seat to the California State Assembly. Among his many contributions, he helped transform San Diego’s skid row into the vibrant historic Gaslamp Quarter District and led efforts to establish the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum. Today, Tom continues to be an influential civic, business and community leader, and an inspiration to every generation. Recently, Tom was honored as “Mr. San Diego” by the SD Rotary Club.
Chris Cate is an advocate and voice for all residents in District 6. Chris proudly represents the neighborhoods of Clairemont Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa, Miramar, Park Village and Sorrento Valley. Prior to becoming the first Asian American elected to the San Diego City Council in over 50 years, Chris served as Vice President of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association. As a long-time taxpayer advocate, he championed local and state legislation, which ensured that cities and public agencies exercise accountability, efficiency and fiscal discipline on behalf of the taxpayers who fund them. During his tenure, he successfully wrote the analysis for Proposition B, a local ballot initiative that will save taxpayers more than $1 billion dollars over 30 years.
